A standing desk…

So I sit… a LOT. 

And I ain’t getting any younger, either.  Because of the nature of much of my work, I sit for as much as 10 hours in a day.  Sure - I get up and move some - but not much.

After a BUNCH of research, I decided to go for a standing desk.  The desk I was already using - a custom-built affair I cooked up using several adjustable studio stands - lent itself easily to the idea.

Because the desk already wrapped around me, it’s perfect to stand at:

So after about 5 days at it…

1. My lower back is complaining a lot. My honey made the very valid point that this is the equivalent of doing a marathon with no practice running in advance. 

2. My heels can get sore if I do it barefoot for long, so shoes are a must.

3. My attention and alertness have improved a LOT, and I can feel my legs and abs getting stronger.

Many of the physical stuff I mention is not uncommon to people who use standing desks.  I’ve read in multiple places of folks who say the first two weeks kick your ass. They’re right.

I’ve taken to breaks throughout the day - which works out fine, actually - I have a rolling chair I keep behind me - and because the desk now has two levels, the lower one serves as a second area.

So far… so good!
